The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment ("Blackhorse Regiment"[1]) is a unit of the United States Army garrisoned at Fort Irwin, California. The M1A1 Abrams is the main battle tank (MBT) of the United States Army. The M1 Abrams features the 1500 horsepower gas turbine engine, depleted uranium armor, and a 120 MM cannon. The M1 was the first main battle tank to have a gas turbine engine that can run any available fuel from kerosene to cooking oil. Another innovation was storing the ammunition in a blowout compartment that channeled potential blast of exploding ammunition away from the crew of four.
